EN ISO 21420 – General requirements for protective gloves
EN ISO 21420 is the international standard for protective gloves and defines general requirements for safety, ergonomics, comfort and marking. It forms the basis for numerous other protective-glove standards and helps ensure that gloves are suitable for their intended use.
The standard assesses, among other things, fit, finger dexterity, wearing comfort, material safety and marking and manufacturer information. The materials used must also be safe for health and must not adversely affect the wearer.
Protective gloves complying with EN ISO 21420 are used in many areas, including construction, industry, trades, logistics, warehousing, horticulture, assembly, maintenance and service work. The standard itself, however, describes no specific protective performance against mechanical, chemical, thermal or other risks. For these applications, gloves must also be certified to relevant standards such as EN 388 (mechanical risks), EN ISO 374 (chemical protection) or EN 407 (heat protection).
When choosing protective gloves, look for valid EN ISO 21420 certification as well as any additional protective standards required for your application. This helps ensure that the gloves provide both the necessary protection and a high level of comfort.
EN 388 – Protective gloves against mechanical risks
EN 388 is the European standard for protective gloves against mechanical risks. It specifies how well protective gloves protect against injuries caused by abrasion, cutting, tearing, puncture and – depending on the model – impact. It is one of the most important standards for professional work gloves.
Protective gloves complying with EN 388 are tested using standardised test methods. The results are given as performance levels and indicate how resistant a glove is to the individual mechanical hazards. The higher the performance level, the greater the protection in the respective category.
Protective gloves complying with EN 388 are suitable for a wide range of applications, including construction, trades, industry, logistics, warehousing, assembly, metalworking and maintenance. They reliably protect hands from everyday mechanical hazards and contribute to safer working conditions.
When choosing a product, look for valid EN 388 certification and the stated performance levels. Always select protective gloves according to the requirements of your application to ensure the best possible protection and a high level of comfort.
